Every Voxtell account includes the AI Receptionist, and every account includes 100 AI minutes per month. It is one of the questions we get most from new customers: what exactly is an AI minute, do they stack per user, and what happens when they run out? Here are the straight answers.
What counts as an AI minute?
An AI minute is time the AI Receptionist spends on a call: greeting the caller, answering questions, booking an appointment, or figuring out who the caller needs. When it hands the call to a person on your team, the conversation from there is a regular call, covered by the unlimited US calling in your plan.
So a caller who asks for your hours and hangs up might use under a minute. A caller who books an appointment in a back-and-forth conversation uses a few. The AI Receptionist works 24/7 and speaks English and Spanish, so minutes get used whenever calls come in, including the 2 a.m. ones your team was never going to answer anyway.
Are the minutes per user or per account?
Per account, always. If you have ten people on your plan, you do not get 1,000 minutes; the whole account shares one pool of 100. And if you run more than one AI assistant, they all draw from the same pool. We say this plainly because the per-user assumption is the most common misread of our pricing, and we would rather you hear it from us than from your first bill.
What happens when you use all 100?
Usage past 100 minutes bills at $0.35 per minute, and the AI keeps answering. There is no tier to upgrade to; the flat plan stays $25 per user per month billed annually ($32 monthly), and AI usage past the included minutes is metered at that one rate.
Worth saying honestly: if your phone is busy all day and the AI handles a lot of it, you will go past 100 minutes. That is usually good news. Every one of those minutes is a call that got answered when nobody was free to pick up, for 35 cents, and a missed call costs far more than that.
How do you make the minutes count?
- List your common questions before setup. Our team configures the AI to answer the questions your callers actually ask, in your words.
- Decide what always reaches a person. Emergencies, key accounts, anything sensitive: tell us, and routing sends those straight through without spending AI time on them.
- Start with after-hours if you are easing in. Let the AI take the calls your team physically cannot, review the results, then widen its job.
- Read your transcripts. Call recording with transcripts is included, so you can see exactly what callers asked and how the AI answered, then tune it with our team.
Appointment-driven teams see the most obvious win. A real estate office has agents in showings all day; the AI books the next showing while they finish the current one.
